Songs we dig #2

Back in the late 90's we were big fans of heavier music like punk, rock, metal etc however the UK and US charts were also chock full of some cracking slices of R&B, Hip Hop and UKG, which we also listened to a lot of. Looking back recently when we have been refreshing our DJ sets we`ve found loads of forgotten classics!

The likes of Brandy & Monica, Missy Elliott, En Vogue, Eve, etc etc get heavy rotation in our sets and it`s great to see the genres start to blow up and become popular again - the massively hot Blawan recently used Brandy's I Wana Be Down in their club smash Getting Me Down!

Anyway, here`s one of our current faves which we`ll most definitely be playing in upcoming sets. Its the Reservoir Dogs Vocal mix of 702's You Don`t Know. It`s been given an amazing UKG flavour that really tickles us where it should!

Songs we dig #1

This 1997 classic by Blue Boy has recently surfaced in our search for great tunes to play out. Long forgotten but always playing in the backs of our minds I'm always reminded without realising it when listening to Liberation Conversation by Marlena Shaw even though the sample is from Woman Of The Ghetto. The catchy scat 'chorus' taken from this song is the only other vocal part of the song other than "Remember me? I'm the one who had your babies." This refrain is backed throughout by a typically 90s bass beat, nostalgic. The words are haunting and hopeful. When I wanna go back to the heyday of my youth I stick this on, my headphones, break out a bottle of hooch and imagine I'm in my tube top raving away at Liverpool's Paradox Nightclub. Enjoy <3
